Is it a boy? Or a girl? Finding out the sex of your unborn child might be one of the exciting parts of your pregnancy. Ultrasound is the best way to confirm your baby’s gender, but that is not the only one. MomJunction tells you about the non-scientific ways that our ancestors have been using for years to guess if the baby is a girl.

Try them and find out how accurate these signs turn out to be in your case.

Signs And Symptoms Of A Baby Girl During Pregnancy

Specific signs indicate that the baby could be a girl than a boy. However, these signs do not surely tell you that you are carrying a girl:

  1. Carrying high: If you appear to carry your baby higher in the womb, then there is a possibility of birthing a girl. Also, if most of your baby’s weight is in the middle of the belly, it indicates a baby girl.
  1. Morning sickness: Excessive morning sickness throughout the pregnancy, irrespective of the trimester, could mean a baby girl. It is associated with increasing hormonal levels and low blood sugars.
  1. Faster heart rate: If your heart rate is high, i.e., 140- 160 beats per minute, you might be carrying a baby girl.
  1. Oily skin and acne: If blisters and rashes appear on your skin during the gestation phase, it could imply a baby girl. Again, blame this on the hormones.
  1. Craving sweets: If you crave for sweet foods such as chocolates and ice-creams instead of spicy or sour foods, you are more likely to have a baby girl.
  1. Mood swings: If you experience extreme mood swings such as irritability, depression, and anger during your pregnancy, you are probably carrying a girl.
  1. Your sleeping side: If you sleep on the right side for most of your pregnancy, you can expect giving birth to a baby girl.
  1. Hair texture and glossiness: If your hair looks thin and dull, it means that you’re carrying a girl while shiny and glossy hair indicates a boy.
  1. Urine color: The color of your urine could indicate your baby’s sex. Dull yellow colored urine could mean that you are carrying a girl.
  1. Graceful: It is said that if you are graceful throughout your pregnancy, you are going to have a girl.
  1. Breast size: When the left breast appears slightly bigger than the right one, or if there is a dramatic increase in your breast size, it means you’re having a girl!
  1. The garlic test: When you eat a clove of garlic, and your body odor does not change, then it indicates a girl. But if the smell of garlic quickly seeps out of your pores, it is a boy.
  1. Dreams about baby gender: It is said that the dreams show the opposite of what you are holding in your bump. If you see a boy in your dreams, you are likely to have a girl.
  1. Toddler’s interest: This is for mothers who are pregnant for the second time. If your toddler boy expresses interest in your pregnancy, then there is a high possibility of you having a girl. And, if he shows no interest, it may be a boy.
  1. Dad’s weight: People believe that if the dad-to-be is gaining weight when you are pregnant, you will give birth to a girl.
  1. Nose: If you do not see any change in the shape of your nose, then you are probably carrying a girl. However, if the nose is growing wider, it indicates a baby boy.
  1. The linea nigra: The dark line that appears on your baby bump can also be an indicator of the baby’s gender. According to belief, if the line continues to stretch above your belly button, you are pregnant with a baby boy. But if the line finishes below your belly button, then you are pregnant with a girl.

These above signs and symptoms may hold true for some and not for some others. If the signs predict it right, you’ll be the proud mom of a beautiful girl. Otherwise, enjoy the surprise. If you have experienced any of these symptoms and given birth to a cute baby girl, we would love to hear your story. Share it with us in the comments section.

Note that the above observations have no scientific backing but have been gathered from experiences of mothers over the decades.
